What We Do

Healthcare PWAC membership provides access to learn from and contribute to a national network of incredible thought leaders. This level of collaboration helps to accelerate improvement across our organizations and drives the change needed to reimagine how we care for our healthcare workforce.

Assessment & Benchmarking

We measure professional fulfillment and burnout using a validated, holistic survey that includes both outcomes and determinants of well-being. The core survey includes the Professional Fulfillment Index (PFI), recognized by the National Academy of Medicine as one of few validated and reliable survey instruments to measure well-being and burnout.

Consortium-wide data collection enables national benchmarking and ability to monitor change over time across roles, medical specialties, departments, etc. Current benchmark groups include attending physicians, residents/fellows, APPs, nurses, faculty scientists, and other non-clinician healthcare workers.

Interventions

PWAC empowers its members to design, implement, evaluate, and improve evidence-informed interventions, and sets the stage for multi-site implementation and testing. Members may propose and lead longitudinal program evaluation projects using aggregate, de-identified Consortium data or their own organization’s data.

Together, we will advance the field of occupational well-being in healthcare and improve collective outcomes through innovative program design, delivery, and evaluation.

Professional Co-Development

Member representatives connect and collaborate with fellow well-being leaders, fostering innovation, mutual support, and continuous learning. Role- and interest-based affinity forums and a members-only virtual platform enable networking and resource-sharing in a collegial environment. PWAC hosts monthly webinars and two in-person conferences per year, along with many ad hoc opportunities to connect with others who share interests and expertise across many domains of occupational well-being.
